Merry Christmas everyone! We had a wonderful holiday with our 2 girls. Riley's excitement was absolutely infectious, it was so fun to share all the Christmas traditions with her. Micaela was a little less aware, but definitely seemed to enjoy all the lights now that her vision is getting better. We went to a children-centered Christmas Eve mass, the first time we've been to church since Micaela was born. She slept through the entire mass and Riley was thrilled that we sang songs she learned in preschool. That night at home Riley would randomly stop, look up and say, "I hear Santa!" We set out cookies and carrots for Santa and his reindeer and Riley happily went to bed. I wish we could use this Santa thing more than once a year.
Our Christmas day was very relaxed. Riley's big gift from Santa was a castle dollhouse with a king, queen, prince, princess, horses and furniture. She loved it and has had so much fun playing with it. It took all day for her to open her presents because she played with each one. We just stayed home and let her take her time and savor each gift. Chad smoked a leg of lamb which was delicious. What a great day as a family.
On the 26th Cheryl and Leon came for a visit. We had a great time with them. Riley loved the extra attention and Micaela loved the extra arms to hold her. We rode the Christmas Train of Lights, went out for dinner and enjoyed catching up. It was so nice to spend some of the holidays with visitors!
As if we don't have enough going on, its time to move Riley to a big girl bed. Until recently she'd been completely content in her crib and we wanted to wait a little longer before making the change. She has a history of staying awake and playing in her crib so we can't imagine how little sleep she will get if she can escape her bed and play with all the toys in her room. Unfortunately in the last 2 weeks she has jumped out of her crib twice. We don't want her to get hurt, so its time. Her crib can be converted into a toddler bed so tonight Chad took off the front rail. So far its not going well, lots and lots of tears and running from her room. Its after 10 pm and Chad is still guarding the door. Will we ever sleep again???
Wow! I want to go to your place for Christmas! That looks like an awesome castle! Don't let Selina see it, she will be so jealous! We will have to do better with the Christmas traditions next year. Completely forgot about the cookies and carrots! As for the toddler bed, yours doesn't have a short toddler rail? Hope she doesn't roll off! You guys are awesome, keep up the good work! I hope to visit soon but this cough needs to go away first!
