Micaela is 1 year old!
Everyone who came to our house in November wrote what they are thankful for on a leaf for our Thankful door
For her birthday we served Micaela's favorite meal: spaghetti and meatballs
Big sister Riley showed her how to open presents
A xylophone from her great grandparents
Mommy teaching her how to play
Presents also make great stepstools
The family
Micaela had her own bear for her very first cake while the rest of us ate chocolate and white cupcakes
What is this?
Hmm, tasty
A little help from Daddy
Riley knows how to eat cake and icecream
Great Grandpa John, did you steal a bite of my cake?
She really got into the gift-opening thing
A trumpet from Grandma Cathy (in addition to the xylophone she also received a drum from her great grandparents...what is my family doing to me???)
Hey, what happened outside?
The first time Chad has shoveled a driveway (apparently they had tractors to remove snow on the farm so he never had to use a shovel)
Goodbye Grandma Cathy!
Riley's first snowball
Micaela has been cruising along the furniture for months and can stand very steadily but still hasn't taken her first steps
I've been taking a cake decorating course all month and my final project was due the night before Micaela's birthday so she had a very sophisticated cake for a 1-year-old (roses were a required element)
The birthday girl!
Riley has had a good first year as a big sister
Another cake?
I know EXACTLY what to do with this now!
Opening the present from her sister
Riley operates the jack-in-the-box
Whoa!
She's already figuring it out
So much change in just 1 year
Micaela Lynn truly is a gift
This week we celebrated Micaela's first birthday twice. We had her favorite meal (spaghetti and meatballs), cupcakes and icecream on Saturday before Grandma Cathy, Great Grandma Charlotte and Great Grandpa John returned to IL. Micaela, who regularly rubs peas and yogurt in her hair, was surprisingly dainty with her cake. She definitely enjoyed it but didn't destroy it as we expected. She liked tearing wrapping paper and playing with tissue paper as much as she enjoyed the gifts. It was great to share her first birthday with family; this is why we moved back to the midwest.
The morning our guests left we woke up to our first snowfall. It wasn't much, probably an inch or less, but the girls were thrilled. Despite the cold Riley played outside for a few hours and Micaela liked looking out our windows at the new scene. It was the first time I've woken up to new snow in 14 years and it was pretty exciting. We'll see how I feel in a few more months.
Wednesday was Micaela's actual birthday. We met Daddy for lunch and had another cake and more presents that evening. It was a wonderful day for our family. Micaela has brought so much joy and happiness to Riley, Chad and I. She is such a special little girl and we're so blessed that she has come into our family
