Eating a fresh peach at the Saturday Hayward Farmer's Market

You can tell it was a good day at the market by the food left on her face

Aww, look at the beautiful newborn, Zooey Eun Winchell

Baby! Baby!

Selina, look over there, zebras!

The girls love running around the zoo meadow

We made them sit still for a picture; they were not impressed

Mommy and Riley

No matter how hard she tries she can't pick up the little bugs

Riley loved taking off her shoes and splashing in the little stream

Bouncing on the snake eggs sculpture; the children's zoo area is so much fun

Loving her Shamey

We've had a very cool summer so far in the bay area and this week we enjoyed some warm weather. Riley and Mommy went to Davis, CA in the always hot central valley last Friday to visit with friends. Pierre Lavenex was a postdoc and later adjunct professor in the same lab that I completed my graduate work and he and his family became very close friends over all those years. They have since moved to Switzerland (Pierre is Swiss) where he is a professor at the University of Fribourg. It was wonderful to catch up with him and his wife and see how his 2 boys have grown. We spent the morning at a park and Riley had a fantastic time running around with the older kids and I was so happy to see my friends again. I would love to visit them in Switzerland someday!

Saturday we visited our friends Steve and Lisa and met their new daughter Zooey. They are all tired but so happy. Zooey is absolutely beautiful and so tiny compared to our "baby." Its hard to believe that just 18 months ago Riley was content to sit in our arms for hours. Now she barely sits for just a few minutes.

Chad traveled to the southeast this week so Riley and I again kept busy. We had a great day at the zoo with our friends Miriam and Selina. Riley and Selina really love hanging out, Riley even calls her by name (well, close, she says See-NA). Its been fun to watch them go from playing near each other to really interacting, sharing, not sharing, and enjoying being together. We're lucky to have such good friends!

  2. Yeah, they are quite a pair. Seamus wasn't too into Riley at first but since she started walking I think he recognized her as a human who ranked above him and now seems to like her a lot more. He's very tolerant and she thinks he is the greatest!
