Wed. July 3, 2013 - Lifesize Candyland, Madison and special visitors

Riley and her friends were Gingerbread Kids traveling along the Rainbow Trail

They met Queen Frostine

and Mr. Mint

The gingerbread kids had to choose a color card to advance along the trail

Grandma Nut greeted them as they passed by her cottage

Princess Lolly had special treats

Hey, this one is too young to be a gingerbread kid and she isn't following along the path, she went straight for the lollypops!

Time to go to the playground

Riley and her friend Anna with treats from Queen Frostine

They found King Candy!

Princess Lolly was everyone's favorite

Micaela wanted to eat her dress

This little rabbit may look harmless but he is staking out my garden!

Our first trip to the state's capital, Madison

They had an amazing farmer's market, I was in heaven!

And a children's museum right across the street, something for everyone

The water globe was cool

Needless to say, Micaela ended up very wet

Matthias wanted to ride a tractor so we took him out to the strawberry farm

Matthias, Martin, Claudia, Micaela and Riley

Look at all the field workers!

Even city boys like eating strawberries fresh off the plants

Matthias was going to feed some to Claudia, but decided to keep eating them himself instead

Yep, once again she is covered in strawberries

Mommy and Riley

PB&J is so exciting!

As if cornhole wasn't challenging enough, Micaela like to block the hole

Teaching our east/west coast friends some midwest games

Our neighborhood park

All kids like playing at the playground

The bridge

Micaela is really strong

Fun under the dome

Micaela couldn't let Claudia leave until she had tried on her shoes

We had so much fun with our visitors!

Martin, Matthias and Claudia are getting back on the road to their new home, Las Vegas

It was such a good time with an old friend!

Our holiday weekend has been amazing...so amazing I need two posts to fit it all in. On Friday Riley went to her first "Friday Fun Day" through the Appleton Parks and Rec department. The theme was Candyland. For the first half Riley played her way through a life-sized version of the game then played the board game with other kids her age. It was incredibly well put-together. The group leaders were so enthusiastic and great with the kids. She can't wait for her next fun day!

On Saturday we drove 110 miles to Madison. The girls and I had never been there so Daddy showed us around. Our first stop was the Farmer's Market at the capital building. It looped all around the capital and had a huge variety, I loved it! After lunch we went to the children's museum so the girls could burn a little energy before our car ride home. Our final destination was Whole Foods, my favorite grocery store. I was so happy to bring home some freshly ground peanut butter and sea bass. Oh how I've missed being just 15 minutes from Whole Foods!

On Sunday night our friends Claudia, Martin and Matthias arrived while traveling from Baltimore, MD to Las Vegas, NV. Claudia has just finished an intense fellowship in ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins and is on her way to a private practice in Sin City. We were thrilled that they went out of their way so they could stay with us for a few days. Matthias really wanted to see a tractor museum while he was in the midwest so we tried to take him to a large John Deere dealership but he was too smart to be tricked into thinking it was a museum. Instead we went strawberry picking, where we rode on a flatbed pulled by a tractor, as acceptable substitute. Later we ran around our neighborhood park. Riley was very excited to have a friend her age to play with and Chad and I really enjoyed the adult conversation at night. We really miss the good friends like Claudia and Martin we met in CA and wish them well with their new adventure. And I'm REALLY excited to have a warm place to visit in February!!!
